Be a part of the Games as a volunteer!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Empire State Games and the biggest reason why the Games have been so successful for so many years!
From keeping score to working on the medical team, from officiating to actually running one of the 27 sports, the Empire State Games has many volunteer opportunities available. For many positions, sport experience is helpful but not required. The desire to be a part of the largest multi-sport event in the state is all we ask.

Here are some opportunities and a brief description of the duties involved.

SPORT CHAIRPERSON - The Sport Chairperson is responsible for conducting the finals competition, which includes developing the competition schedule, assisting the Games staff in venue selection, equipment requests, recruiting and overseeing a Sport Committee (Officials Coordinator and Support Coordinator), and ensuring the results are submitted in a timely fashion to Games Headquarters. Persons are selected for this position by the Empire State Games main office.

Currently all Sport Chairperson positions are filled.

REGIONAL POSITIONS: There are a number of volunteer positions within each region. These volunteers are selected by the Regional Director (RD).

Regional Coach -- Volunteer coaches conduct the regional trials for the sport, submit team player information to the Regional Director, conduct practices, chaperone the team at the finals, and perform other team related duties as requested.

Currently there are no coaching vacancies.

Regional Chaperones -- Volunteers are needed in each region to serve as chaperones on the residence halls during the Games.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these Regional support positions, please contact the Regional Director at the number indicated for your region on the Regional Page.

MEDICAL STAFF: Volunteer Certified Athletic Trainers, Athletic Training Students, Physicians, and Physician Assistants are needed to provide medical care to the athletes of the Games.
If you would like to volunteer for the Medical Staff please call the Games office at 518-474-8889.

SPORT SUPPORT: Each sport has a need for volunteers to help conduct the finals competition - from scorers to timers, to ball boys/girls, and from road marshals to result runners, a number of positions are available - and many do not require knowledge of the sport! Sport Support volunteers receive a pass good for all ESG sporting events and a special t-shirt. If you are interested please register online or call the Games office at 518-474-8889.

MEDIA CENTER: The Games Result Reporting System is the envy of all other State Games!
For the 2008 Games, the Results Center will be situated on the campus of Binghamton University.
Media Center Greeter: Volunteers are needed to answer telephone queries about results and general Games questions, and to distribute Media Credentials to registered media. Volunteers for this position will be provided with necessary information and tools to answer questions and need to be able to comfortably navigate the internet.
Data Entry: Volunteers for Data Entry are needed to enter sport results and while keyboard experience is helpful, it is not necessary.

Media Center volunteers will receive training at the start of their shift, a pass good for all ESG sporting events and a special t-shirt. If you are interested please call the Volunteer Office in Binghamton at 607-772-8862, x332.
